Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is the venue?
A: The Venue is at the Melbourne Centre, Escrick Street, York. YO10 4AW. Please note, several of the regular daytime users of the centre suffer from severe, life-and-death nut allergies. Please do not bring any nuts onto the site.

Q: What is the Accessibility like?
A: The site is fully accessible for wheelchair uses or folks with mobility issues, and there is a disabled toilet. We have use of the whole venue so if you feel the need to escape from the excitement and have a bit of quiet time there is a kitchen you are welcome to use or a seating area in the main reception area. There is also a designated “quiet space” in a little cabin on the grounds of the venue. If the weather is nice there is also some outside space you may enjoy.

Q: Can I smoke, vape, or drink alcohol on site?
A: The venue is attached to a local school and smoking, vaping, or drinking alcohol are not allowed on the premises. If you must smoke or vape please be discreet and head out of the rear door of the centre, do not do so in front of the (very public) car park opposite people’s houses.

Q: Will there be tea and coffee?
A: Yes, we aren’t savages. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate will be provided for the duration of the weekend. These will be left out in the kitchen for you to help yourselves to, just be sure to clean up after yourselves.

Q: How about snacks?
A: There will be a tuck shop in the foyer, however we would ask for donations in exchange for your sugar rushes as all of the money raised from the tuck shop will be donated to a local charity. Please give generously!

Q: How about proper food?
A: Of course! A light lunch will be provided in the form of make-your-own sandwiches. We will provide a basic selection of bread, cheese, ham etc. Do not expect anything too fancy and if you have any unique dietary requirements please let us know in advance or bring your own food. Due to the nature of the event and the layout of the kitchen we cannot safely cater for everyone regarding allergies and intolerances.

Q: Where do I store my kit?
A: The venue features a small woodworking classroom that we turn into a makeshift kit storage area for the duration of the event. Kit can be left at the venue overnight, whilst the venue is locked and alarmed please keep in mind that equipment is left in the venue at your own risk.

Q: Can we stay on site?
A: Sadly we cannot offer sleeping accommodation in the venue due to a (current) lack of shower facilities. We would recommend using AirBnB, Booking.com or a similar site to see if you can scout out some good bargains.

Q: I’m driving, where do I park?
A: Parking is available throughout the weekend at the venue. You are welcome to leave your car in the Melbourne Centre car park for the duration of the event, although this is done entirely at your own risk. The car park gates will be locked on Saturday evening.

Q: Can I get to you using public transport?
A: York Railway station is a 30 minute walk from the venue. The number 7 bus will take you from the station and stops a few minutes walk from the venue. A taxi rank is also available at the station entrance, pre booking isn’t generally required but depending upon the time of day there may be a queue.

A: There will be space hoppers.

Q: Bouncy castles?
